Story:
Six years ago we were enamored with a burst of new technologies that pointed towards a weirder, more local, more intimate internet.
At the time, we conducted a variety of experiments to learn how we could use these technologies to blur the lines between our working environment (a classic artist/designer warehouse studio) and a local intranet.
One of the notable projects from this time was a means to embed a local web page "within" a studio plant and host a variety of resources about the plant, such as its watering schedule, its associated wikipedia page, and hyperlinks to other related objects in the room.
We quickly learned that the technology of the time wasn't really ripe for what we really wanted: A way to talk to the plant and have it respond to us without setting up QR codes or webpages on its behalf. Our hacks were janky, so we let the idea rest for a while.
Fast forward to 2024 —
With the advent of specific recent technologies, our old dreams of an animistic world of computer-objects are on the cusp of being able to be realized with a bit of effort. The Flower Computer Company was created to realize these dreams.
Team:
We're a handful of artists, technologists, designers, and dreamers with wide-ranging experience working on the most technically ambitious projects in recent times.
